Get Together at Old Town School!

Whether you have two hours or two months to spend with us, you’re invited to be part of a vibrant community filled with people from all walks of life to make music, dance and the arts part of their lives every day. You belong here no matter what you like, what you already know or what you want to do! Many of our jams and showcases are free of charge and open to the public.

Jams

A great way to play and sing along with a group. Join the circle with your favorite instrument or just your voice. Free & open to the public, you do not need to be a student at Old Town School to join in our weekly jams.

The Second Half

Our free daily jam. A tradition from the early days of Old Town School, gather together with other core guitar students after class for a jam led by teachers featuring songs from the songbook and pop classics. Location and times change depending on the day of the week and is free of charge.

Workshops & Intensives

A terrific way to study something new. Low-commitment and hands-on workshops from our teaching artist faculty as well as visiting and touring artists. We offer workshops in dance, music, songwriting and so much more. Open to all.

First Friday

Join us on the First Friday of each month at our Lincoln Park campus at 909 W. Armitage for a special night celebrating our community. Try out new or specialty class, join a jam and check out performances by our eclectic ensembles.

Educational Outreach

Bringing the job and power the arts to over 2,500 school children each year through programs like Artists-In-Residence, Wiggleworms-In-Residence and Guitars For Growth. Your support through classes and concerts help provide quality arts education for Chicagoland students of all ages.

Student Showcases

Most classes in our catalog end the session with a performance onsite at the school or offsite at some of Chicago’s finest venues, bars, restaurants and community centers. It’s a chance for students and ensembles of all skills and types to show off what they’ve been working on.

Teen Open Mic

An open mic just for teenagers, Ages 13-19. Join a supportive and fun atmosphere to celebrate everyone’s contributions and welcome new performers to the community. All are welcome, whether you’re a singer-songwriter, spoken work artist, vocalist or a full-fledged band, we’d love to have you on stage!

Resource Center

Housed in the basement of our Lincoln Avenue campus, our Resource Center holds an archived collection of over 20,000 recordings, videos, books and periodicals.

Songs Of The Session

A tradition since 1957, each session two songs are chosen, one from the songbook and one from the general repertoire. All classes are encouraged to learn these tunes and apply the skills they are working on at their individual levels.
