Stella Childs

Violin

To Stella Childs, making music has been a fact of her life for as long as she can remember. She was born into a musical family, got her start as a toddler in the Old Town School of Folk Music’s Wiggleworms® program, and began studying the violin at age 9. Since then, she has performed in a variety of ensembles as a violinist and singer, including string quartets, symphony orchestras, new music improvisation groups and Balkan music ensembles. In addition to the violin, Stella plays the viola, mandolin, and guitar. She also enjoys writing and performing her own music, inspired by her studies in, and love for, folk music, folklore and fairytales. When Stella is not making music, one might find her drawing, reading, or doing yoga.

Stella studied with Meg Freivogel McDonough of the Jupiter String Quartet at the University of Illinois Urbana Champaign, and graduated with a Bachelor’s in Music: Violin Performance.
