Kids Group Fiddle Continuing!

Our Fiddle program is rooted in folk repertoire from around the world. In this class, young folks will focus on mastering all of the skills and tunes presented in Old Town School’s Fiddle Books Two, Three and beyond. We listen to, sing, dance, and play our tunes. All of this work develops the child’s ability to learn by ear. Our approach takes the time to allow children to make their own musical discoveries and meaningful connections. Embracing a social learning community, the classroom is a collaborative learning environment between teachers, parents, and students. Small group division at this level, has to do with playing ability, focus, and confidence. Guardians may stay and observe class, but students at this level should likely not need assistance with their instrument.

At this level students will continue to develop bow hand flexibility and move their thumb to the inside of the frog, learn the names of the notes on the D and G strings, learn these types of bowing: slurs, staccato, and legato. Altered notes: “Low” fingers 1 and 2, “high” finger 3, playing with the 4th finger, emphasis on playing solos and in rounds, understanding Key signatures (A Major, D Major, G Major), playing a 2 octave G scale.
