Launched in 2010 by “So You Think You Can Dance” co-creator and Dizzy Feet Foundation co-president Nigel Lythgoe, National Dance Day is an annual celebration that takes place on the last Saturday in July. This grassroots campaign encourages Americans to embrace dance as a fun and positive way to maintain good health and fight obesity. View the schedule below:

Kim Davis, the Old Town School’s Director of Education, will lead participants in a family dance jam and teach everyone this year’s National Dance Day choreography! RESERVE ▸

Maila Sylla will lead participants in a high-energy family dance party! Move and groove to contemporary and popular music from the African continent and learn all of the latest dance steps! RESERVE ▸

Boogie McClarin will lead participants through high energy house dance and hip-hop moves for the whole family to enjoy. RESERVE ▸

This workshop will cover fundamental dance vocabulary for Afro-Cuban dance styles such as rumba and orisha dance. Live percussion provided by members of Iré Elese Abure. RESERVE ▸

This workshop will cover fundamental dance vocabulary for kizomba. Kizomba, also called cabo zouk and passada, is a social dance form that emerged in the 1980s in Angola, Cabo Verde, and other sites in the Lusophone African diaspora. Students will learn fundamentals related to technique, timing, and improvisation. No partner needed! RESERVE ▸

Get introduced to this great American dance style! Swing and sway to the sounds of Count Basie, Duke Ellington, and Glenn Miller- the classic big band sound. Come alive with the east-coast style 6- and 8-count swing, and lots more. Make those floorboards bounce. No partner necessary! RESERVE ▸

Yaasha Abraham, Dance Director of the Ethiopia Festival will lead participants through a survey of traditional and popular dances from various ethnic groups of Ethiopia such as Wollo, Tigray, and Gurage. RESERVE ▸
