Before Elvis, Chuck Berry, and Johnny Cash, there was Sister Rosetta Tharpe, the Godmother of Rock & Roll. From a young girl in Arkansas to a bold, guitar-shredding trailblazer, she rocked the stage with a powerful voice and a style like no one else’s, at a time when women were rarely seen rocking out.
Join us in the Resource Center for a reading of Rock, Rosetta, Rock! Roll, Rosetta, Roll! by Tonya Bolden, illustrated by R. Gregory Christie, followed by seasonal songs and an art project inspired by the book.
The program is led by Carey Anne Farrell, Old Town teacher, preschool educator, and musician.
