The Bird Blues and More Workshop will explore the standard 12- bar blues form and its variations by way of jazz legends Charlie Parker, Thelonious Monk, Sonny Rollins and Ornette Coleman. There is so much musical language and vocabulary to be found in the various blues tunes of these legendary artists. Discussions will focus on the use of rhythm, melodic motifs and harmonic shifts inside of these blues tunes.
Steve has traveled the world playing with jazz greats, such as bassist Charlie Haden, vocalist Madeleine Peyroux ,the late drummer Paul Motian and countless others. In 2002, he released a book on the compositions of the pianist, Thelonious Monk. When Steve is not on the road he is on the faculty at The New School in New York city. He teaches special classes like Duo Jazz Guitar and the Thelonious Monk ensemble. Steve is an established solo artist where his composition take center focus on his four acclaimed recordings. This workshop/clinic will be filled with information from beginners to professional musicians that will help advance you to the next level.
