Rhythm Workshop with Peter Mazza

Rhythm is the powerful and expansive, but all too infrequently taught musical ingredient that you can not live without when playing jazz guitar. Rhythm is the "life-force" behind both linear and chordal playing. It blends the use of sound and silence, repetition and variation, and tension and release among other important dynamic qualities. Whether you aspire to create memorable phrases, generate swing feel, listen more deeply, play more "conversationally" and confidently, or to expand your range of intensity and creativity as a performer, it is crucial to develop your sense of rhythm, pulse, time and form. The relationship between rhythm and harmony in jazz runs deep. Both areas shine all the more brightly when they coexist in collaboration and balance

Peter Mazza is a jazz guitarist & composer born and raised in New York City. He earned degrees from The Manhattan School and Music and The Julliard School, and was a Thelonius Monk Competition semi-finalist. He began performing in NYC over 25 years ago with some of the most outstanding musicians of his generation including Chris Potter, Joel Frahm, Rick Margitza, Roy Hargrove, Brad Mehldau, Christian McBride, Greg Hutchinson, among others, and has performed with jazz legends like Wynton Marsalis and Jimmy McGriff

Peter will raffle off the choice of the following to one of the workshops’ lucky participants
