Building Variations for Clawhammer Banjo with Allison de Groot

Using a common tune in the key of D, we will learn a basic form of the tune and I’ll show you my process of building variations. These are tools you can incorporate into any tune you already know, use to construct an arrangement, and to have on the tips of your fingers for reacting in the moment when you are jamming. The goal is to give you a wide range of tool so you can make more creative choices! 

Allison de Groot combines love for old-time music, technical skill and a creative approach to the banjo forming her own sound – unique and full of personality. Her collaborations with Allison de Groot & Tatiana Hargreaves, Bruce Molsky’s trio Molsky's Mountain Drifters, The Goodbye Girls and Nic Gariess provide spaces to explore the role and depth of clawhammer banjo.
