This class is for piano students who are interested in developing their comfortability performing and playing for other people, as well as listening to others play and offering feedback. We are a mix of levels and genres, with students playing anything from pop/folk/rock/jazz lead sheets, to individual classical repertoire, to songs in Alfred's Books 2 and 3. As long as you can learn a piece of music largely self-guided, then this could be a good fit for you.
Each class begins with about 30 minutes of group instruction, often focusing on sight-reading and various theory concepts. We then transition to a room with an acoustic piano where each student plays the individual piece they are working on in front of the class. The instructor leads a group discussion and workshop following each song.
Depending on the session and student interest, there may be a song or duet the class learns to play as a group. Some one-on-one time is spent with the teacher throughout the session, depending on the amount of people and performance time of each class.
