Own The Stage with Typhanie Monique

This course give you the opportunity to reflect and dive into your artistry and stage presence. Typhanie will guide you through exercises to ignite your artistry, develop and explore the physical and emotional connection to delivering your music and connect with your audience. Learn how to practice and prepare appropriate gestures, staging, facial expressions, emotive delivery, banter, and vocal artistry.

A 90-minute interactive workshop that includes a master class type setting with student performances. A well received and highly attended presentation, Typhanie debuted this workshop at the ASUPROX Music Industry conference in April.

Typhanie Monique is a recording artist, educator, performance coach, and improviser. As a performer, with over 20+ years on the Chicago music scene, she has graced many stages from OTSFM’s Mauer & Szold Hall to City Winery, The Chicago Jazz Festival, The Jazz Showcase, The Green Mill, SPACE, Elbo Room, Studio 5 to Sub T to name a few.

As an educator, Typhanie Monique is an OTSFM family members. She taught for over 12 years before joining the faculty at DePaul University and Columbia College Chicago. August 2024, she accepted a position as Clinical Associate Professor of Popular Music, Voice at Arizona State University in Phoenix, AZ. The ASU Popular Music program started in 2020 and she’s thrilled to share her expertise and experience in the growth of the program in areas of vocal studies and performance specialization.
She holds a B.M. in Music Business from Elmhurst University, a M.A. in Music (Vocal Pedagogy) from Northeastern Illinois University, and is a certified Vocologist from the University of Utah.

At Old Town School, Typhanie taught and created a jazz vocal course series with Tony Do Rosario and John Erickson, The B Sharp Singers (Seniors Choir), The Troublemakers (vocal jazz ensemble), a variety of focused vocal technique courses, and private voice and piano lessons.

This week we bring her back to share her knowledge and her love for the singing voice, the art of improvisation, and Black American Music styles.
