Intro to Burlesque with Sunny Haelstorm

Feathers! Rhinestones! Josephine Baker! Dita Von Teese! These may be images that pop into your mind when you hear the word "burlesque" but do you actually know what burlesque is? Whether you're a fresh-faced newbie or long-time enthusiast this is your chance to learn the in's and out's of this alluring artform. The session will begin with a crash course in the history of burlesque which will include an open discussion on what modern burlesque looks like today. Then you will be led through a group warm-up followed by struts, bumps and grinds across the floor to help you activate your inner showpony. Class will then culminate in a playful, flirty routine that will have you oozing sensuality, power and confidence! Adults only, all genders and bodies welcome.

Sunny Haelstorm is a performing and teaching artist who uses dance, burlesque and drag as methods of self-expression. A former company member with the Joel Hall Dancers, Sunny's extensive dance background stretches nearly 20 years. They began performing burlesque in 2017 and have since performed in numerous productions and venues of note throughout Chicago and across the Midwest. Sunny's classes are designed to help people of all identities connect with themselves and others through creative play and authentic self-expression. They delight in sharing their knowledge and quirky sense of humor with others, ensuring everyone involved has a fun and fulfilling experience!
