Huda Asfour Improvisation Workshop

In this workshop, Huda will work with the participants on essential skills for individual and group improvisation using a series of exercises designed to create strong group dynamics, deeper listening capabilities, easier expression of self, and broader imagination for sounds. Asfour uses active learning methods to cover topics related to structure, modality, rhythms, rhythmicity and its relation to language. Out of a belief that anticipation, responsiveness, and free translation of thoughts, are essential for improvisers, Huda practices conducted improvisation - a space between composition and improvisation -  as a pedagogic tool to break into new imaginative spaces of improvised music making in an ensemble setting.

The workshop will focus on essential skills for group improvisation by:
• Learning the gestures used to communicate with the ensemble
• Creating strong group dynamics
