Enhancing Your Fiddle Practice with Libby Weitnauer

Libby Weitnauer has used the techniques from her background in classical music to open up new possibilities in fiddling for herself and her students. In this virtual workshop, she will share exercises appropriate for any level or style that students can employ to make their own practicing and playing more fluid and efficient. Libby will cover several different techniques in both the bow arm and left hand and will then use somewhat of a masterclass format to engage students who would like to be worked with individually.

Libby Weitnauer is a fiddle player, violinist, and educator currently based in Brooklyn, NY but raised in her musical community of East Tennessee. She has earned degrees in classical violin performance from both DePaul University and New York University and has studied traditional music with teachers including Matt Brown, Rayna Gellert, and GRAMMY Award winner Dom Flemons. She is a member of stringband Ginny’s Kitchen and acclaimed banjo-fiddle duo, Tui. Libby has played anywhere from a kitchen square dance to the Broadway stage of Oklahoma to the halls of the Smithsonian Institution.
