African American Paper Quilt Square Making

Join storyteller and artist Zahra Baker to learn the story and recreate the patterns used in the underground railroad. The Underground Railroad Quilt Symbols on quilts helped fugitives communicate nonverbally with each other and the road to freedom. Geese flying north, bear paws to the mountains, log cabins, box symbols, monkey wrenches, and the north star. Participants will use colored paper to create their own patterns and squares.
