The Arabic goblet drum is know under the names tablah, darabuka, derbeke & dumbek. It is found in both folk music & dance music. In this workshop Multiple levels are simultaneously engaged. Students will review optimal technique for making the 4 essential sounds. Several rhythms from around the Arab world (North Africa, Near East & Gulf) will be learned. The class will conclude with a guided lesson on how to create solo phrases and flourishes.
