Join Hamza Akram Qawwal and Brothers for this unique workshop exploring the Qawwali musical tradition. Qawaali is Sufi devotional music from Southeast Asia. Hamza Akram and Brothers, originally from Karachi, Pakistan, will explain the history and cultural context of Qawwali music as well as explain and translate some of the spiritual poetry found in Qawwali lyrics. Participants will also learn about the vocal technique, scales, rhythms, instrumentation, and performance aspects of Qawwali music. Bring an instrument for a Qawwali jam with the group at the end of the workshop!
