For over 20 years, Mama Maila has been building and uplifting communities through dance, music, and tradition. A performer, educator, and choreographer, she continues the powerful legacy of her parents, Aissatou Bey and Raymond Sylla, pioneers of African drumming and dance in America. Her journey has taken her from Chicago to Dakar, Senegal, where she trained with the Joe Kololi Ballet, deepening her connection to the art form.

Mama Maila has been a beloved faculty member at Old Town School teaching extensively through the Community Ventures Program.
