Building Chord Vocabulary: 7ths and Extended Triads

Many styles of music require chords with extra notes. It’s not good enough to just play a C or Cmin; rather, chords such as Cmaj7, C6, C7, Cmin7, or Cmin7(b5) are needed to make certain songs sound the way the composer intended. Blues, R&B, Soul, Country, various Rock and Pop tunes, Standards, Jazz, Latin, Xmas and novelty songs, etc. all need these types of chords to sound authentic. The class starts with relatively simple songs with just 3 or 4 chords and graduates to more complex songs as the session unfolds.
