The Gentle Shepherd Residency

JULY 7 - SEPTEMBER 24, 2016

The Bach & Beethoven Ensemble (BBE), led by Old Town School fiddle teaching artist Brandi Berry, will produce and perform the first (and only) Scottish "folk opera," The Gentle Shepherd as a U.S. premiere. With folk songs instead of arias, this not-your-grandmother's-opera tells the tale of two couples in the shepherding hills of the highlands, the struggle between love and aristocratic duty, and a couple of old lassies who teach a wayward laddie a lesson with their "sorcerous" pranks! This residency will offer several workshops on how to Scottishly fiddle, improvise, and arrange songs found in the folk opera.
