Piano, Ukulele, Theory, Bass
Classical, Pop, Rock, Country, Folk, Old Standards, Gypsy Jazz
Whether it's classical piano you want to learn, Scott Joplin, pop hits or old standards, the fundamentals are the same: establishing, and building on, a solid musical foundation on your chosen instrument, so that you can fully express yourself and experience joy through your playing. Lessons are tailored to the needs of each student, whatever the age or level, and the emphasis is on acquiring the necessary skills to allow you to achieve your personal musical goals, including through music theory, learning to read music, ear training and comping with lead sheets. Vanda's own goal as an instructor is to help and inspire others to follow their musical bliss.
Vanda studied classical piano from the age of 7, followed by the cello, guitar, ukulele and electric bass. She has played in a variety of musical ensembles, including orchestra, choir and a number of rock and pop bands. Currently, she plays bass with fellow Old Town School artist (and spouse!) Bob Goins as half of the whimsical, Anglo-American guitar-bass duo, the VandaBobs, and as part of the rock trio, Merle Grey. She graduated from Columbia College, Chicago with a BA in Contemporary, Urban and Popular Music, having studied under Chuck Webb and Larry Kohut, and has been an active member of the Old Town School Community since arriving in the US in 2014.
Recordings include playing bass on LeAnn Stutler's forthcoming debut album Keeps Getting Better.
