
Little Drummers
Mars Caulton is an Interdisciplinary Teaching Artist and Early Childhood Teacher who has drummed, sung, and done spoken word poetry with babies, youth and adults. She has taught music theater for young children, percussion for toddlers through 2nd grade, taught spoken word poetry with all ages including an original trip-hopera for 1st & 2nd graders (Ravinia Festival), with afterschool programs and kindergarten classes, and creating spoken word theatre with women in transitional housing on the West Side. She enjoys using music integration within a Reggio Emilia classroom approach. Mars plays baritone ukulele, African drum, Taiko, vocal improvisation (with Michael Zerang), and is a State-certified educator with a Masters degree in early childhood special ed.
After decades as a classroom teacher, Mars is passionate about making music with young children. She occasionally still sings Tutti I Fior from Madame Butterfly, and Old English Madrigals.
