Teachers at the Old Town School

Joel Frankel

Joel loves teaching the adult Guitar Core classes and Ensembles at the Old Town School. “I see guitar as something to make music with, so my approach is to guide students to become more a musician than simply trying to play a guitar. I try teaching songs that challenge students without discouraging them if the progress seems slow. I show my students that there's more than one way to play the song they're learning, especially rhythmically- as their guitar skills improve. Hear it, sing it, play it. Music is a mantra.”

Singer, songwriter, and recording artist Joel Frankel is a big kid who's been entertaining smaller folks and their parents forever.
Frankel's five CDs have received numerous awards. His songs have appeared on TV, Film, Sirius XM, and radio. His song, "We Go Together," was featured in the classic motion picture Big starring Tom Hanks. While his songwriting credentials are rather extensive; his numerous performances for families approach legendary.
He also made a cameo appearance as an accordionist in the movie Father of the Bride, which starred Steve Martin and Diane Keaton.

His daughter Layla has now joined him on staff as Wiggleworms instructor.
