Under the direction of international flamenco artist Curro de Candela, Flamenco Nights is a dynamic production that unites some of Spain's most celebrated flamenco artists with Chicago's finest performers, creating a vibrant and unforgettable cultural experience. While directing and working with Chicago natives Carmen de Chicago and Andrea Salcedo, both featured artists in this upcoming show, Curro experienced the city's extraordinary artistic community firsthand and developed a deep appreciation for Chicago's incredible music and arts scene. Flamenco Nights invites audiences on a captivating journey through the passion and tradition of flamenco music, song, and dance while seamlessly weaving in and featuring the rich heritage of jazz. Through Curro's artistic vision, these two distinct traditions come together to create a powerful celebration of cultural exchange. Flamenco Nights offers audiences an exciting and immersive experience, revealing the unexpected connections between flamenco, jazz, and the artistic spaces where they meet.

Curro de Candela

Curro de Candela is the youngest and last representative of the artistic dynasty founded by José Greco, the first great international star of Spanish dance. This dynasty also includes the renowned and brilliant dancer Lola Greco, who received the National Dance Award. Curro's father, Domenico, also a dancer, is José Greco's nephew and Lola Greco's cousin.

Today, Curro is a celebrated artist - one of the most highly regarded flamenco dancers, directors, producers, and composers in Madrid. He founded his own company at the age of 22, and works with a team of exceptional musicians, blending his love of flamenco with Cuban, classical, and American music to each of his productions.

Curro continues to create, produce, and direct new works, and is currently developing his most ambitious production to date, serving as musical producer; artistic director choreographer, and principal dancer alongside some of today's finest artists.

Carmen Alvarez

Carmen Alvarez was born in Chicago, the city where her artistic journey began. She started her dance training at the age of five and graduated magna cum Laude with a degree in Dance from Western Michigan University. Carmen is classically trained in ballet, modern, jazz, contemporary, flamenco and Spanish dance, as well as in voice and acting. She has performed at international dance Festivals in South Korea, Chicago, and Detroit. Her curiosity for flamenco was sparked from a young age, watching her father dance flamenco and play Latin percussion throughout the Chicagoland area.

In 2026, Carmen is making her debut as a flamenco artist in Chicago, performing throughout the city where it all began. Carmen is honored and excited to embark on this next chapter of her artistic journey, sharing her love of flamenco with audiences both in Chicago and abroad. She could not do any of this without the love and support of her family and Curro.

Andrea Salcedo

Originally from Jalisco, Mexico, Andrea Salcedo is the first Mexican woman flamenco guitarist and has been recognized as an international reference by the Spanish newspaper El País. She grew up in Chicago, where she arrived at the age of ten, and graduated with honors from Northern Illinois University, earning a Bachelor's degree in Classical Guitar under the guidance of guitarist Fareed Haque. She began her flamenco studies in 2012 with Spanish guitarist Jesus de Aracely in Chicago. Since 2019, she has been based in Spain, where she continues her training with Aquilino Jiménez "El Entri” and José Manuel Montoya at the Fundación Conservatorio Flamenco casa Patas in Madrid.
