Presented by The Bolero Project, "Made in Guatemala: Volume I – Carrying Home" is a bilingual musical storytelling experience that celebrates Guatemala through its songs, stories, and cultural memory. Blending beloved traditional repertoire, contemporary Guatemalan songwriters, and original music, Guatemalan artist Estefanía Mena takes audiences on a personal journey from Quetzaltenango to Chicago, exploring what it means to carry home across borders, generations, and songs. Designed for both Guatemalan and non-Guatemalan audiences, the performance offers an intimate evening where music becomes a bridge between cultures, memory, and belonging.
Presented as part of The Bolero Project, an initiative created and led by Chicago producer and curator Mike Oquendo.
Customers reserving tickets to this show agree to receive communication from the Mike Oquendo Events.

Estefanía Mena is a Guatemalan singer, actress, and storyteller from Quetzaltenango, now based in Chicago. After receiving her artistic training in Mexico and continuing to build her career in the United States, she has developed an interdisciplinary practice that weaves together music, theater, and personal narrative to celebrate Guatemalan culture while building meaningful connections across communities. Drawing inspiration from traditional repertoire alongside contemporary Guatemalan songwriters, Estefanía creates performances that explore memory, identity, and belonging through an intimate and bilingual artistic experience. Made in Guatemala: Volume I – Carrying Home marks the first installment of an ongoing series honoring the music, stories, and cultural legacy of Guatemala.
