Colectivo Sayba is Chicago's premier Afro–Puerto Rican bomba ensemble, dedicated to preserving and celebrating one of Puerto Rico's oldest living musical traditions. Rooted in the dynamic interplay of drum, dance, and song, the ensemble honors the rich legacy of bomba through powerful performances that celebrate resilience, cultural memory, and community.
Based at El Schomburg in Chicago, Colectivo Sayba brings together traditional rhythms, improvisation, and movement to create an immersive experience that reflects the enduring spirit of Puerto Rico's Afro-descendant heritage. Through electrifying performances, the ensemble invites audiences to experience bomba as a living tradition - where rhythm, storytelling, and collective participation come together in joyful celebration.
Tamanaco Tambor is an Afro–Venezuelan cultural ensemble dedicated to preserving and sharing the vibrant musical traditions of Venezuela's Afro-descendant communities. Through the powerful rhythms of traditional drums, song, and dance, the ensemble celebrates the cultural legacy, resilience, and joyful spirit that have shaped generations of Venezuelan heritage.
Drawing from the rich traditions of Venezuela's Caribbean coast, Tamanaco Tambor delivers energetic performances that invite audiences to experience the heartbeat of Afro–Venezuelan culture. With appearances at festivals and cultural events throughout the Midwest, the ensemble continues to build bridges across communities while honoring the traditions that inspire and connect people through music and movement.
Trio Axol is a Mexican folk music ensemble dedicated to the traditional music of central and southern Mexico. The trio performs beloved traditional songs as well as original interpretations that celebrate the rich musical heritage of Mexico's coastal regions.
Originally from Mexico City, the members of Trio Axol have been active performers on the Chicago music scene for more than 20 years. The group's name, Axol, is inspired by the axolotl, the iconic amphibian endemic to the canals of Xochimilco, symbolizing their deep connection to their cultural roots and Mexican heritage.
