Tierra Roja is a Chicago-based ensemble founded in 2015 by father and son Jesús and Emiliano Rojas, dedicated to preserving and cultivating the rich traditions of Son Cubano and Son Jarocho. Rooted in the musical heritage of the Gulf of Mexico, their sound reflects the deep cultural dialogue born in the sister ports of Havana and Veracruz—historic points of arrival during the Spanish conquest where Indigenous, African, and European influences blended to create enduring musical traditions.

Jesús and Emiliano began their musical journey after migrating to Chicago in 2001, becoming key contributors to the city's Latin American folk scene. Over the years, they helped found and perform with several influential groups, including Tarima (2001), Son del Viento (2008), and Fandanguero (2010), before forming Tierra Roja as a continuation of their commitment to traditional music.

Through Tierra Roja, they bring to life the vibrant rhythms and storytelling of Mexico and the broader Latin American diaspora, performing at cultural festivals, concerts, and community events across the region. Their appearances include notable stages such as the Levitt Shell in Memphis, Viva Chicago, Chicago Summer Dance, Chicago World Music Festival, Mole de Mayo, and Pilsen Fest, among many others.
