4544 N Lincoln Ave · · 773.728.6000

This is a FREE show

The Pocket Philharmonic is an initiative to broaden access to and engagement with classical music by bringing concerts to community spaces where it's not traditionally heard. In a new collaboration between Nova Linea Musica and Guarneri Hall, NLM artists, violinist Rabia Brooke and cellist Alexander Hersh will join Guarneri Hall's Pocket Philharmonic to present Old School-New Faces. The concert will feature Rabia as soloist for Beethoven's Romance No. 1 for violin and orchestra and Alex as soloist on Haydn's cello concerto in C major. The program will also include a short work by the iconic Hungarian composer György Ligeti and new works by contemporary composers Clarice Assad and Paul Wiancko. Rabia and Alex will lead the events for a younger cohort 3rd to 6th grade from 10:30 AM to 11:30 AM and for an older group from 11 AM to 12 Noon. The two soloists will use their experiences working with their composer friends Clarice Assad and Paul Wiancko as the springboard for discussions about how music is personal for all of us.
