After over half a decade with the internationally-renowned and legendary Orchestra Baobab, Cheikh Ibra Fam launches his international solo-career to take audiences around the world by storm with his Afropop blend of funk, jazz, soul, and more. His music is equally rooted in Senegalese traditions and the sounds of West Africa.
In this trio Patrick O'Reilly, a composer, guitarist, sought-after collaborator and a community-driven fixture in the Toronto music scene, joins Cheikh Ibra Fam in the guitar. Patrick is faculty at University of Toronto where he teaches jazz theory and composition and runs the improvising university jazz ensemble, while he is also completing a Doctor of Musical Arts Degree. He has been performing with Cheikh Ibra Fam for the past two years. Juan Carlos Medrano is a percussionist, multi-instrumentalist and educator. He is the music director of an Afro-Colombian ensemble and has led hand drumming workshops for at-risk youth in Canada. He is in high demand on the local and international scene.
In partnership with Sunfest, London, Ontario.
