In celebration of International Women's Day, Patricia Ortega (Mexico/Cuba), La Paula Herrera (Chile), and Neusa Sauer (Brazil) join forces for a unique and unforgettable concert through the music of Latin America. This concert kicks off Old Town School of Folk Music's Women's World Music Concert Series for the year.

Patricia Ortega

Patricia Ortega has Mexican/Cuban musical roots and has performed with groups ranging from the Lyric Opera Children's Choir, the Chicago House Music Scene, to several original/cover bands before venturing on her solo musical path and long time work with the ensemble, Las Guitarras de España. She has also toured and performed with the Ensemble Español Spanish Dance Company since 2002. She works within many musical genres including flamenco, Cuban, Latin jazz, Mexican, R&B, rock, soul, and folk music which has inspired her to find interesting ways of combining them in her compositions.

La Paula Herrera

La Paula Herrera is a modern Chilean singer-songwriter. She takes inspiration from the folkloric root of the Southern Cone. Her music travels through folklore and pop, with delicate touches of electronic music. In February 2013 she won the Silver Gaviota for the best song in the Viña Festival in the folk competition. Today Paula lives in Chicago and she's preparing the release of her latest album completely composed during the pandemic while isolated in the Chilean little town of Los Molles.

Neusa Sauer

Neusa Sauer is a true legend of Brazilian music. She was born in the sun-drenched southern shores of Rio Grande do Sul, Brazil. Graced with an exquisite voice and a natural stage presence, she began singing at age 8 and at age 17 won a coveted prize at the Voz de Ouro.

"…some of the best bossa nova you're likely to find on this side of Rio. I've never heard a better female bossa nova singer than Neusa Sauer.” - Chicago Tribune
