Happy Traum - Postponed

Coming of Age in the Greenwich Village Folk Revival & the Woodstock Scene (1954-1971)
Postponed to TBD

4545 N Lincoln Ave · The Myron R. Szold Music & Dance Hall · 773.728.6000

For music fans and liner note junkies, Happy Traum needs no introduction. A quintessential figure in the New York folk music scene, recording musician with Bob Dylan, and founding partner of Homespun Tapes, Happy has been amplifying folk music enjoyment and education for decades.

Happy's credentials are as long as his storied career. He studied with Brownie McGhee, recorded with Pete Seeger and Bob Dylan in 1963, cut the first recording of "Blowin' In The Wind", published many essential guitar instruction books, and recorded with Allen Ginsberg. He is widely heard on Bob Dylan's recordings playing bass, guitar, banjo, and singing harmony vocals on classics like "You Ain't Goin' Nowhere", "Down In the Flood", and "I Shall Be Released". He worked extensively with his brother, Artie, playing the Newport Folk Festival and cutting a slew of albums.

Perhaps Happy's most important and lasting musical contribution has been Homespun Tapes, which he and his wife, Jane, co-founded in 1967. This dynamic and growing company has a catalog of more than 500 music lessons, distributed and sold around the globe on audio tape, DVD, CD, and in book form, which has evolved into an online, on-demand streaming platform. Through Homespun, Happy continues to bring the likes of Tony Rice, Ralph Stanley, Bill Monroe, Mike Seeger, Norman Blake, and Richie Havens to the homes, ears, and fingers of countless students. The list of true masters Happy has shared stages and studios with, learned from, and collaborated with is far too long to list, and he remains a humble servant to the ongoing study of our national musical heritage.
