World Music Wednesdays

A weekly showcase of world music and dance featuring the best local and touring talent! Most shows are Wednesday nights at 7:30 PM.

Most World Music Wednesday concerts are free with a $10 suggested donation. TO GUARANTEE YOUR ENTRY MAKE YOUR RESERVATIONS IN ADVANCE EITHER ONLINE OR BY CALLING THE BOX OFFICE AT 773.728.6000. Reservations unclaimed 10 minutes before showtime will be released to waiting patrons.

OPLIAM is a multi-instrumentalist whose music crosses all musical boundaries. He plays rock and roll, hip hop and reggae. Sometimes separately, sometimes cosmically interwoven. OPLIAM has toured internationally, playing shows in Australia and New Zealand.

In 2019, OPLIAM played both the Indigenous Peoples March in Washington, DC as well as the 23rd Annual World Peace and Prayer Day, held by Chief Arvol Looking Horse. In 2019, OPLIAM also had the opportunity to open for Kweku Collins on the Manifest Urban Arts Festival Main stage, Downtown Chicago. Manifest's previous headliners include Chance The Rapper, Common, Ella Mai, Vic Mensa. OPLIAM has also played shows with Indigenous, Frank Waln, and members of Gogol Bordello in 2019.

OPLIAM is Native American on his father's side and has never forgotten where he comes from as a musician. OPLIAM's family is Mohawk, one of the six Haudenosaunee (Iroquois) nations, originating from Kahnawake Mohawk reserve outside of Montreal, Quebec.

Frank Waln

Frank Waln is an award-winning Sicangu Lakota Hip Hop artist and music producer from the Rosebud Reservation in South Dakota. A recipient of the Gates Millennium Scholarship, Waln attended Columbia College Chicago where he received a BA in Audio Arts and Acoustics. Waln's awards include three Native American Music Awards, the National Center for American Indian Enterprise Development 2014 Native American 40 Under 40, the 2014 Chicago Mayor's Award for Civic Engagement, and the 2016 3Arts Grant for Chicago Artists. He has been featured in Buzzfeed, The Fader, Playboy, Vibe, NPR, ESPN, and MTV's Rebel Music Native America. Waln has written for various publications including Decolonization: Indigeneity, Education, and Society and The Guardian. Frank Waln travels the world telling his story through performance and doing workshops focusing on self-empowerment and expression of truth.

Def-i

Hailing from Albuquerque, NM, Def-i represents the Diné Nation. His performance styles range wide from Hip-Hop and Spoken Word to Contemporary Native-American Acoustic. Emerging from the Underground Indie rap circuit, his eclectic repertoire of talent has allowed him to single-handedly perform regularly throughout the country solo or alongside his newly formed live-fusion quartet ‘DDAT.' With multiple national tours and festivals under his belt, his recent groundbreaking 2019 solo project ‘Dream Trails' received much-deserved fanfare & launched him into featured appearances on internationally recognized segments such as Eminem's XM radio station Shade 45, Sway In The Morning on Shade 45, BBC News, AJ+, National Public Radio (NPR), Vans Warped Tour, PBS, and a plethora of other Hip-Hop outlets. Def-i was also voted as Best Hip-Hop Artist of 2018 by Weekly Alibi and recently traveled to Nigeria as an Artist-Educator/U.S. Hip-Hop Ambassador in part of Next Level USA's residency program.
