Eye On The Sparrow: The Afterlives of Ethel Waters and Bessie Smith is a one act musical. Bessie Smith and Ethel Waters meet outside the gates of heaven and engage in a singing contest to determine who will enter. This one act play is drawn from Waters' recollections about her career as a jazz singer, actor, and film star. Both singers recount their lives and the major figures who shaped their careers. A recording of the music and script in CD format for advance classroom study is available to teachers upon request.
