The Old Town School of Folk Music and the Cenzontles organization present this concert as a follow up to the first annual Mexican Indigenous Music Festival held here in September. Los Pireris or Tanimu Piereriicha in Purépecha (The Singing Trio), are musicians from the Purépecha indigenous community in Michoacán, Mexico. This group was formed in 2010 in an effort to revive the Pirekua music traditions of this community, the same year that this tradition was recognized as part of the Intangible Cultural Heritage of Humanity by UNESCO. Los Pireris released a critically acclaimed recording in 2012 that has become an important addition to the growing Pirekua revival. Join us for a celebration of the indigenous communities of Michoacán Mexico with Los Pireris plus a special presentation from local artists from that same community.
