Hindole Majumdar

Hindole Majumdar occupies a commendable position amongst the young tabla players of his generation. Inspired by his maternal grandfather, Late Sri Chittaranjan Roy, an ardent music lover, and his mother, Late Sunanda Majumdar, a teacher by profession and a Kathak dancer disciple of Pandit Ramgopal Mishra of the Jaipur gharana, Hindole started learning tabla at the tender age of 5. In his very first performance at the age of 10, he completely enthralled the audience.

He received his first formal training from Shri Shibshankar Karmakar, a disciple of Ustad KaramatullahKhan, Farukkhabad Gharana. He continues to receive training from the great tabla maestro Pandit Sankha Chatterjee (of the Punjab and Farukkhabad Gharana) in a guru-shishya parampara. He has also had the opportunity to learn South Indian Rhythm style from the Mridangam exponent Pandit S.Shekhar.

Hindole now performs all over the globe accompanying various artists, and his work is critically acclaimed by music enthusiasts all over the globe. He has accompanied illustrious musicians of Indian Classical music like Ustad Shahid Parvez, Dr. N. Rajam, Ustad Shujaat Khan, Pandit VishwamohanBhatt, Pandit Tarun Bhattacharya, Pandit Rupak Kulkarni, Pandit Rakesh Chaurasia, Vidwan ShashankSubramanium, Pandit Sanjeev Abhyankar, Pandit Jayteerth Mevundi, Vidwan Lalgudi Krishnan, VidwanGanesh Rajgopalan to name a few. He has collaborated with world music percussionists like Doyra player Abbos Kosimov, four time Grammy award winner Glenn Velez, and world renowned Mridangam exponent Legendary Trichy Sankaran.

Hindole has founded the Hindole Majumdar School of Music and Dance in Milwaukee, Wisconsin in USA where he teaches Tabla and Indian Rhythm on a regular basis. He has also numerous CD's audio and video albums released by various record companies including his own record label Sunanda Records.

Soumyajyoti Ghosh

From the distant antiquity, it is the overwhelming tune of Lord Krishna's ‘Bansuri' which has enchanted all of creation for years. The musical instrument ‘Bansuri' or flute, transforming the ‘fourth one' of the five basic elements of nature (Panchabhut), is one of the most popular instruments due to its melody and simplicity. Amongst the few flutists of recent times, Soumyajyoti's has distinguished himself via his flawless artistry of the bamboo flute, as well as a host of other musical instruments. Through his numerous musical performances, he has conquered innumerable musical hearts, both at home and abroad.

Soumyajyoti started his musical quest at the age of only twelve years under the able guidance of Sri Sudip Chatterjee, a senior staff artist of the All India Radio. In the course of his melodious journey, Soumyajyoti got the privilege of the guidance of many acclaimed artists and musicians such as Pt. Debaprasad Banerjee, Sri Debapratim Roy and Dr. Rajib Chakraborty. Finally, his musical horizon got illuminated by the celestial light of his gurus 'Pt. Ronu Majumdar', the flute Maestro of the famous ‘Maihar' Gharana, and Pt. Ajoy Chakraborti. Their affectionate blessings shower on Soumyajyoti abundantly till date and under their tutelage, Soumyajyoti continues to pursue his tireless musical quest. Soumyajyoti was selected in the ‘All India Radio Talent Contest' at the age of fifteen and he has upgraded himself as a B-high artist of the All India Radio.

Since then, Soumyajyoti has been performing and winning acclaim from varied audiences and fellow musicians both nationally and internationally. He has performed in the ‘Bird's eye Jazz Club' in Switzerland and ‘Rijeka Jazz Festival 'in Croatia. He has performed memorable shows at numerous other countries like Germany, Slovenia, Austria, Bahrain, Qatar, Oman, UAE, Kuwait, Bangladesh etc. Some of his recent notable shows include, the ICCR tour of Sweden and Belarus and NABC empaneled artist in California. He has given solo performances in France, Australia, Japan, South Africa, West Indies amongst others. He has also shared the stage with eminent artistes from all over the world like, Pt. Birju Maharaj, Pt. Chitresh Das, Ust. Ghulam Ali, Pt. Debashish Bhattacharya, Pt. Bikram Ghosh, Kavita Krishnamurthy, Koushiki Chakraborty, Rashid Khan and many others..

As a musician, Soumyajyoti has a unique mix of traditional and innovative skills. He has created new age music, been in a Fusion rock band, performed with international artists on varied musical styles, as well as played all kinds Indian music including traditional classical music. In addition to his performances, Soumyajyoti also plays the role of a teacher to several talented students in India and around the world.
