Dabke Dance Workshop with Mary Mulcahey

From the Mediterranean coasts to the Mountains of Lebanon and banks of the Euphrates River, Dabke is the traditional folk dance known for its high energy and spirit. Danced in a group, Dabke is colorfully choreographed to dramatic folk music and rhythmic variations. Dabke is the traditional folk dance of the Greater Syria region, danced in a variety of forms throughout Palestine, Syria, Lebanon, and Jordan. The energy of dancing as a group is a core expression/spirit of the dance. Highly choreographed to dramatic folk music and rhythmic colors from the region.

Popping and Beatboxing Dance and Music with Amirah Sackett and Ahmed Zaghbouni

Join international artists Amirah Sackett and Ahmed Zaghbouni, aka MR MiC, for a fun and energetic workshop that combines the dance style of "Popping" with live ‘Beatboxing’. Participants will learn the fundamentals of the percussive dance, popping with Amirah, and learn to create music and beats using only their mouths with MR MiC. This class is perfect for dancers and musicians looking to explore two unique elements of hip-hop culture.

Egyptian Folklore: Saidi and Nubian Dance with Erika Ochoa

Join us for an immersive introduction to the rich and vibrant world of Egyptian folkloric dances! Learn authentic movements like the Nubian foundational step with symmetrical arm flows and the iconic Sa'idi Raqs Assaya (stick dance) with its playful and dynamic twirls and balancing acts. This workshop is open to all levels—no prior experience required.

Integrating Arabic and Western Musical Styles with The Arab Blues

Please join The Arab Blues for an educational workshop examining their unique and powerful blend of Arabic and Western Musical Styles. Lebanese-Egyptian oud and guitar player Rami Gabriel and Native Egyptian percussionist Karim Nagi will take attendees in this free workshop on a musicological, historical, and cultural journey. They discuss and perform on various traditional and contemporary instruments, and give compelling examples of Arabic music, traditional Blues, and their own hybrid styles. This workshop explores cultural identity through music; the two artists who immigrated to America share how music has given them a way to merge their worlds in this testament to multiculturalism.
