Major and minor chords form the backbone of any song, but there is a whole universe of color that we can explore in the form of extended chords. These include 7 chords, 9 chords, even 11 and 13! Our focus will be on the four types of 7 chords and how to use them. We will also explore pedal tones, a very common and organic way to include the higher extensions in pop and indie rock. Familiarity with major chord scales (e.g. from Songwriting: Fundamentals) will be helpful; bring an instrument!
