The Rhythms of Flamenco Music with Andrea Salcedo and Aroa Fernández

An interactive introduction to the rhythmic language of flamenco music through live singing, guitar, palmas, and group participation.

Led by flamenco artists based in Madrid — guitarist Andrea Salcedo and singer Aroa Fernández — this workshop explores how rhythm (compás) connects flamenco singing, guitar, and dance. Through live demonstrations, clapping exercises, listening activities, and participatory rhythm games, students will experience some of the elements that make flamenco unique: rhythmic
communication, improvisation, and the close relationship between voice, guitar, and rhythm.

Participants will explore rhythmic forms such as tangos, rumba, and bulerías while developing a deeper appreciation for how flamenco music works from the inside.

This workshop is open to musicians, dancers, singers, and curious listeners of all levels. No previous flamenco experience — or specific instrument — is required.
Rather than a technical deep dive, this class offers an accessible, hands-on introduction to the feel, structure, and communal energy of flamenco rhythm.
