Whether you've just started an instrument, or have been playing for years, this class is aimed towards those who feel pretty comfortable with the “how” but lack the “why.” Whether you're a pianist immersed in classical rep, a drummer drilling rudiments, a vocalist with a strong ear, or a string player with mastered chord shapes, you still might be asking, "but why!?" With a focus on playing our instruments, this class will be set up like an ensemble. But instead of just playing through songs, we'll use them as a template to explore various theory concepts. Throughout the eight weeks, we'll look at scales of all sorts, chord progressions, rhythmic choices, melodic and harmonic intervals, and much more.
