This workshop will focus on the basics of chords and keys and how to use that knowledge to improve your songs. We’ll look at ways to venture away from a key with substitution chords and ways to change keys and colors using theory and your ears. Theory can be a useful tool to expand the sonic palette of your songs and get you closer to realizing the sounds you hear in your head. Open to all levels. Steve Dawson has been teaching songwriting at the Old Town School for 20 years and has released over a dozen albums of original music as a solo artist and with his band, Dolly Varden.
