Morgan is known for their distinctive approach to flatpicking old time tunes, one that evokes the feel and groove of old time fiddle and clawhammer banjo players. In this workshop, they will introduce and demonstrate some of the basic elements of this approach, such as creating a strong rhythmic pulse, utilizing ringing drone notes, and employing fiddle- and banjo-inspired phrasing. Participants will get concrete practice at these techniques by learning Morgan’s arrangement of a well known tune, as well as guidance on how to apply them more broadly.
