Women's Road to Rock Guitar - Play It & Learn the History

From the birth of the electric guitar to blues, rhythm and blues, classic rock, punk, new wave, “shred,” “grunge,” and today's indie rock — every era has creative and innovative female guitarists.

Through songs, we'll explore rhythm and lead guitar basics, learn about amps, pickups and effects pedals, and song structures to inspire your own writing. We'll also get a taste of each era, including Memphis Minnie's cutting blues solos, Jennifer Batten's tapping, and Courtney Barnett's infectious riffs.

The workshop will give you a taste of the full class (starting in Session 5).

Nikki O'Neill is a singer-songwriter-guitarist signed to Blackbird Record Label. She writes for Guitar Player Magazine and Guitar Girl. Nikki taught clinics at the all-female rock music college ELLA in Sweden, and a popular group class at The New School in New York called Women's Contemporary Rock and Blues Guitar. She's also the author of the instruction book, Women's Road to Rock Guitar (Alfred Music).
