African-Rooted Percussion: The Marakadon Rhythm of Mali with Ibrahima Sarr

Ibrahima Sarr, master percussionist from the Malian superstar group BKO, will give a workshop on the Malian rhythm Marakadon. This rhythm and the accompanying dance, Maraka, originated with the Soninké people of the Kayes region of Mali but is also played by the Bambara and Malinke peoples. In Mali, the rhythm is normally played using two Dunduns, but the Djembe or other hand drums can be used as well.

The workshop is available to all skill levels. A recording with a Marakadon song dedicated to a king and princess will be provided in advance of the workshop.
