This three-part workshop series with acclaimed songwriter Gary Louris of The Jayhawks begins with How And Why I Write: Gary Louris Songwriting Workshop on Thursday, June 17 with two follow-up meetings on Monday, June 21 and Monday, June 28. The two follow-up workshops will be limited to 15 students where we will continue the discussion in a more hands-on, one-on-one setting. Students will be encouraged, but not required, to bring in songs they may need help with or want feedback on. The course will be a living, breathing entity that will take on a life of it’s own, but rest assured Gary will be as open and forthcoming as possible with what he has experienced, with the goal of helping you understand why you write, how to get unstuck, and how best to finish what you started. We will discuss the epic battle between the conscious and the unconscious mind and how best to make them work together. We will tackle the biggest obstacles to successful songwriting - fear of failure, self-consciousness, and lack of confidence. Gary will be open to any and all questions and looks forward to meeting and getting to know all of you.
