One World, Many Rhythms with Sammy Figueroa

Although each person has their individual rhythm -- their breath, their heartbeat, their stride -- when people play rhythms together they create one rhythm, resulting in a sense of community and friendship. In this workshop, two-time Grammy-nominated percussionist Sammy Figueroa (see World Music Wednesday on 10/9) invites each participant to find their own rhythm and then gradually brings the participants together in a united group rhythm. Sammy will introduce basic rhythms from various cultures that play in community and invite the group to play with him in call and response, resulting in a group drumming session that is simply fun. The session ends with a q & a/commentary. All levels and ages welcome, no experience necessary although drummers of all experience levels are welcome. This is a great opportunity to play informally with a master percussionist.
