Swedish Folk Music for All Instruments

In this workshop, which is open to all instruments and singers, Emilia will give you a good taste of Swedish trad music! She will teach one or a few songs, go through some historical and theoretical background and then give lots of focus to getting into the right groove, playing expressively and rhythmically with lots of energy and dynamics. It's all about the connection between body, groove, dance, expression and flow! Emilia teaches in a style that gives everyone, both more basic and more advanced players, something to really work on!

Emilia Amper, nyckelharpa player, singer and composer, is one of Sweden's most sought after folk/trad musicians. With great love, knowledge and respect for traditions, she explores the possibilities of the nyckelharpa and meets new music with inspiration and curiosity. She is a riksspelman ("National fiddler of the realm"), has two bachelors and one master degree in folk music/nyckelharpa/composing and her resumé is filled with awards, including World champion of nyckelharpa 2010 and two American Grammy nominations. She tours all over the world with Swedish folk & world music bands such as Emilia Amper Band, ODE and The Forbidden Orchestra, and with musicians from other cultures and genres. She is a popular teacher in Sweden and abroad and also teaches regularly at The Department of Folk Music at The Royal College of Music in Stockholm.
