Argentine Folk Music with Pampero Sur

Explore folk music of the “Southern Cone” of South America with Belen Mackinlay and her group, Pampero Sur in this unique workshop on the day after their World Music Wednesday performance. Participants will learn about a variety of different folk music styles from Argentina like zamba and chacarera. The group will cover the origins, rhythms and melodies that are unique to these styles.

This workshop is open to all instrumentalists and vocalists. String players, percussionists and vocalists might find this workshop particularly interesting.

Based in Argentina, Belen Mackinlay and her group have devoted their careers to Argentine folk. At this moment they are presenting Huella, their second album, released by record label Acqua Records. Gardel Awards —Argentina’s top music awards— nominated the group for Best Album by a Breakthrough Folk Artist on account of debut album Trébol Blanco. The group invites listeners to rediscover the classics of Argentine folk from a novel perspective.
