Join Pibo Marquez of Venezuela for a workshop on the use and application of the congas within the folklore of the Caribbean. The conga drum, due to its power and versatility, has transcended borders and genres to become the most popular drum in the world. Learn how the conga drum is used in the traditional music of Venezuela, Puerto Rico, the Dominican Republic, Colombia, and Cuba. Some of the genres that he will explore are; Bomba Sika, Plena, Merengue (Pambiche and Alomaco), Cumbia, Currulao, Chacha Lokuafun, and Conga (Cuban Comparsa). Pibo will also introduce traditional Venezuelan instruments, Culo, Puya, and San Millan.
Pibo Marquez is one of the foremost percussionists in Venezuela, specializing in Afro-Venezuelan and Afro-Caribbean drumming, He has performed and recorded with some of the most recognized names in Salsa, Jazz, and the traditional music of Venezuela and the Caribbean region. http://pibotamborero.wix.com/pibomarquez
