Learn how to play rock, pop, and country music by ear in a piano duet. This class is great for solo players, keyboardists who play in a band or ensemble class, or anyone who just wants to improve their ability to accompany and play by ear. Many piano students never learn how to play rhythms underneath vocals in the same way that guitarists can strum and sing. With some basic chords, you can learn essentials like how to play left hand bass lines, how to fit into a band, and the two-handed rhythm styles commonly used in pop music. Instructor Mick Archer brings 20 years of experience training dueling pianists to the Old Town School piano lab. Bring a friend or find a partner in class and let the duel begin!
Students should be able to form simple major, minor, and seventh chords on the piano and be able to play along with basic tunes for singing. Reading and playing from sheet music is not required.
