Begin by using chords to strum simple songs with a technique known as frailing. Learning with tablature and by ear, you'll gradually develop a melodic application of frailing called clawhammer. Explore old time favorites such as “Cripple Creek” and work with alternate tunings for standards like “Shady Grove” and “Little Sadie.”
Introduction to the Banjo is recommended if you are new to the banjo. Players who are self-taught or have played in other styles can begin here.
Banjos are available for rent or purchase at the Old Town School Music Stores.
