This evening of free workshops and jams, dancing, sample classes and performances is a great introduction to our community for newcomers and an opportunity for longtime friends to try something new.

60 Years of Old Town School: An oral history

Come for home-made cookies and coffee, stay to hear highlights from the oral history of the Old Town School, produced by our Resource Center in collaboration with StoryCorps. Listen to stories, see pictures and video from our archive, and preview the upcoming series of our Archives Podcast honoring the school's 60th anniversary.


Voice of the People Jam with Andrea Bunch and Mary Peterson

Through the ballads of the labor movement, the spirituals turned protest songs of the 50’s and 60’s, reggae, contemporary hip-hop, and much more, music has served as the Voice of the People. In this informal singalong/jam we'll play protest and solidarity tunes that have shaped and continue to shape movements and cultures in the US and abroad. We’ll learn about the history of the music and the musicians. All instrumentalists, singers, and hand clappers are welcome!


Harmonica for Beginners with Skip Landt

Learn the basics of folk and blues harmonica with Skip Landt. If you’re looking for an instrument you can fit in your pocket, this is the place for you! No experience necessary. A limited number of harmonicas will be available to participants and for purchase any time in the Old Town School Music Store.


A Capella Pop-Up Choir with Renee Nanzer

Join Renee Nanzer for a fun workshop that's all about the power of your voice! Come together in song with other members of the Old Town School Community and explore singing a capella! No experience necessary!


Intro to Blues Guitar with Chris Winters

Join Old Town School guitar teacher Chris Winters to get a taste of blues guitar basics. Bring your acoustic guitar. For people with beginner/intermediate guitar skills. Ability to play open position guitar chords helpful.


Barn Dance with Paul Tyler and the Fiddle Club of the World

Join the Fiddle Club of the World for a Barn Dance! Square dances for all, with fun calls and friendly instruction by Paul Tyler. Music by the Fiddle Club Orchestra. No experience or partner necessary. Bring your friends.


Bluegrass Jam with Chris Walz and John Huber

Open to anyone who wants to pick and sing. Bring your basses, fiddles, mandolins, flatpick guitars, bluegrass banjos, and voices for an informal bluegrass jam with Old Town School faculty. All levels are welcome.


Rhythm Call Percussion Jam with Rick Neuhaus

Connect with your community through rhythm with Rick Neuhaus! Explore your natural rhythms through a combination of structured and spontaneous interaction using a variety of percussion instruments. No experience necessary. Percussion instruments provided!
